Abstract

Melanoma is the most aggressive type of skin cancer and has complex metastatic pathways, including local extension, regional spread to lymph nodes, and spread to distant organs. Real-time, high-resolution sonography has become the main imaging noninvasive tool used for staging and follow-up of locoregional tumor spread in patients with cutaneous melanoma. In this chapter, basic concepts on melanoma, technical considerations, use of contrast-enhanced sonography, sonographic morphology of the primary lesions and performance of locoregional staging, as well ultrasound-guided procedures for melanoma are discussed.

How to perform an adequate locoregional staging
