Abstract

Carl Rogers recognized a similar dynamic in conflicts between people, conflicts between human groups, and conflicts within an individual person. These conflicts have in common that an entity, a heretofore trusted being, has its unity threatened or ruptured. Conflict transformation is an effort to facilitate evolution and change in relationships between “parts” of a jeopardized entity: to reconcile, repair, renew, or disperse a “whole” with just and satisfying replacements. Through comments on illustrative examples, this chapter conveys the author’s thoughts about conflicts, their transformations, and their connections to ideas and practices in Carl Rogers’ work.
