Abstract
The WHI findings were seen as conclusive by some, were resisted by others, and for a third group, presented an opportunity to bring to the fore the use of transdermal routes of administering HT, which had been used more widely in Europe than in the United States, and which were showing many fewer of the negative effects, primarily because it is not metabolized in the liver, as is oral HT, and because of the use, in the patches, creams and gels, or primarily estradiol.
