Abstract
Despite growing evidence supporting the safety of physical activity during pregnancy and possible benefits, there are many women who do not stay active or become active during pregnancy. There are many reasons women do not participating in activity during gestation. Understanding these reasons is important for health-care providers who should be encouraging women to stay active while pregnant. Furthermore, it is important for providers to understand what motivates pregnant women to change their behavior. In order to effectively intervene regarding activity and pregnancy, providers must know the current guidelines regarding safe practices for exercising while pregnant. Current recommendations for aerobic and strength training are provided. Considering the potential gains for mother and child, it is imperative for pregnant women to know and understand what activities can be done during pregnancy and how it affects pregnancy outcomes.
