Abstract

Qualitative research methods are an established approach to research. In recent years, qualitative methods have become increasingly common in the peer-reviewed injury prevention literature. This chapter presents a review of different applications of qualitative methods to the field of injury research and discusses select tools (for collecting, managing, and analyzing data) and rules of interest to injury research. Also included is a discussion of three qualitative research traditions (case study, ethnography, and concept mapping) in the context of injury research. The chapter concludes with a consideration of future directions for using qualitative research methods to advance injury research.
