Abstract
The studies that I reviewed in the preceding three chapters were all concerned with youth unemployment because that has been the main focus of my research program. In this chapter I will describe two recent studies that involved older age groups. These investigations were conducted with a view to examining whether the relations found in the research on youth unemployment also occur for unemployed people who are older. I also wanted to study the role of variables such as financial stress and financial strain that were not a focus of interest in the research described so far and to obtain further information about duration effects, job-seeking behavior, and time use after job loss.
