Abstract
Clinical testing is an essential step in the process of pharmaceutical product development. The purpose of the clinical component of product development is to assess the safety and efficacy of the new product in human subjects under carefully monitored, controlled conditions of exposure. However, the planning of the clinical component of product development must, of necessity, begin long before human studies are initiated.
