Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to provide guidelines on the process of finding possible solutions for application needs. Thus far the preceding chapters have provided the structure and build vs. buy alternatives. It is now important to define the steps necessary to find the solution and prospective partners that meet the RFP needs.
Searching for the right solutions starts with forming an internal team responsible for managing the process through selection decision. The following roles and responsibilities should be considered:
• Selection team director/lead: this individual should be at a senior level, perhaps director or above and have responsibility over the project selection team process and any other members who are needed. This individual could either be from IT or from a business unit. I suggest that this individual come from the business with assistance from IT management; in this way it allows the business to feel that they “own” the project.
