Abstract
There comes a time, when repeated surgical attempts to restore continence have failed, that a further attempt at reconstruction is not realistic and an alternative must be considered. There are a number of options for diversion, the most simple of these being a urethral catheter. Permanent options are a conduit urinary diversion, heterotopic continent diversion, or bladder neck closure with continent cutaneous diversion. The decision as to, which is best, depends on the patient’s condition and wishes. Each option has complications and consequences for the patient.
