Abstract
The reader will find this chapter useful for background on modeling and simulation. It sets the context with respect to analog behavioral modeling and simulation for the rest of the book. First, it discusses the different categories of simulation and the types of simulators within those categories. This chapter also elaborates on some specific HDLs as well as gives background on the development of standards that are evolving for analog and digital HDLs. It discusses the significance of abstraction for modeling in general, and defines the modeling continuum. This is followed by a discussion on model accuracy and precision. A description of the differences between some common modeling techniques for 1C design is also given. The chapter concludes with a discussion on common applications of analog behavioral modeling.
