Abstract
All components of the generic structure of the electromechanical drive system of Fig. 2.1 have been discussed, except the mechanical gear and the mechanical load. In this chapter the electrical torque T produced by the motor will be related to the mechanical load (L) torque TL and to the angular velocity ωm as transmitted to the mechanical load via the gear box. It is important to realize that the electrical torque characteristic (T − ωm) of a drive motor must be compatible with the mechanical torque characteristic (TL − ωm) of the load. The compatibility of these two characteristics will be discussed in the first section, where the necessary and sufficient conditions for stable steady-state operating points will be derived.
