Proposal for a Practical Spoken Dialogue System Development Method

Abstract

This chapter presents a new rapid prototyping method, Mrails, for a spoken/multi-modal dialogue system. In contrast to previous approaches that define individual dialogue states, our method automatically generates necessary dialogue states from a data model definition. This prototyping method, which has the capability of real data access and basic error management, can be implemented by reconstructing a dialogue transition script of Rails Web application framework. In this chapter, we present an overview of our approach and show rapid development examples of various types of spoken/multi-modal dialogue systems.
