Abstract

The field of interventional radiology has evolved over the past 30 years into a well-established medical subspecialty. Increasingly, referring physicians rely on the imaging knowledge and technical expertise of the interventional radiologist to help guide and assist in patient management. As a result, it has become increasingly important for the interventional radiologist to have a fundamental knowledge about pharmacology, general anesthesia, and clinical management. This chapter presents essential elements that help establish a solid foundation for patient management and preparation for interventional radiological procedures.
