Abstract
In this chapter we describe the various steps in the design flow of an integrated circuit, starting from the algorithmic description of the functionality, to its representation and model in a High Level hardware description language(HDL). For each step we present open-source VLSI CAD tools. We limit our attention to standard cell based design methodology, but we should point out that in addition to this style there are these other techniques which are also used:
