Disability in the Health Services Curriculum

Abstract

Health Services, or Health Policy and Management, is a core discipline within schools of public health. For those who pursue a concentration, the curriculum is designed to provide students with an understanding of current health care policies and the historical context of the organization, structure, financing and regulation of health care in the United States. Course offerings typically include the organization and structure of the health care delivery system, health care financing, the management of health care organizations, public health policy courses, the health care workforce, health economics and law, health care quality and outcomes measurement, medical technology, and cost effectiveness. Health services research includes policy analysis, health outcomes, program evaluation, quality improvement, and cost-effectiveness.
