Abstract
Core strengthening is a major part of training programs in athletes as well as patients. The kinetic chain theory is a major component of understanding how the core connects and influences movements in the rest of the body. Core training program participation should be done with proper evaluation of balance, strength, flexibility, and corrections of difference for optimal benefit. Neural systems and proprioceptive feedback play a major role when developing and training the core musculature. The long-term benefits of maintaining a strong and endured core have shown to provide optimal athletic functions in sports and decreased dysfunction in patients with low-back pain.
