Abstract
A 55-year-old man (68 kg, height 5 ft 10 in.) is scheduled for extensive dental work under general anesthesia. Two months before, he underwent successfully an Ivor Lewis midesophagus esophagectomy. He can now take multiple small meals and has gained weight. He is otherwise healthy. He has not had anything to eat or drink for 10 h.
