Abstract
Gathering metrics to serve as the baseline for your stress and performance tests should be part of your requirements gathering. They will help you identify the maximum load that the application and environment can handle before it breaks, as well as the maximum sustainable load that can be processed. Those will become the performance goals for your solution and constitute your performance release criteria.
