Wenn wir sagen „Jupiter existiert nicht“, so ist das, was da nicht existiert, nicht etwa der Begriff „Jupiter“, der existiert (bzw. die Vorstellung „Jupiter“), sondern, was da nicht existiert, ist der Gegenstand. Jede Vorstellung also (jeder Begriff) hat einen Gegenstand; es gibt für jede Vorstellung einen Gegenstand, aber dieser Gegenstand braucht nicht zu existieren.
