The history of all nations began over half a million years ago, when different groups of primitive people left Africa to populate the rest of the world. It took almost that much time before Homo sapiens could initiate the process of domestication of plants, in order to feed a growing, sedentary population. In fact, this process began c.10,000 years ago, because 70,000–13,000 years ago, most of the water was in the form of ice sheets (glaciations) that covered the current temperate regions, while the tropics were dry (Goldammer and Seibert, 1989).
