Abstract

Graduates were already indirectly confronted with their prospective future assignments in their job search. Therefore, they were asked to state the aspects their employers took most into consideration when recruiting them (for their first employment). One must bear in mind, however, that recruitment criteria are by no means a perfect mirror of the competences that are expected of graduates, since they may reflect, for example, scarcity or abundance of competences on the labour market, decisions to screen on the basis of a few criteria while taking others for granted, views about the opportunities and difficulties in identifying competences in the recruitment processes, and finally views about the continuity or discontinuity of these competences in education and subsequent employment or about the opportunities and limitations of acquiring them on the job.
