Abstract
Increasingly, mental health resources are being targeted toward prevention and early intervention programs. For example, in the United States the Head Start initiative has grown from being a program primarily for 4–year-olds to providing services to high-risk families with children in the 0–3-year-old age range. Additionally, numerous programs are available throughout the UnitedStates and abroad that target the development of parenting skills in pregnant and high-risk adolescent mothers. Some high schools even provide on-site nurseries and parenting classes to teenagers. With the emphasis on teaching positive parenting to parents of infants and toddlers, there has been an increased demand for provision of PCIT services to children from birth to 24 months.
