Abstract
In this chapter, we build models of “synaptic noise” in cortical neurons based on the experimental characterization reviewed in Chap. 3. We first consider detailed models, which incorporate a precise morphological representation of the cortical neuron and its synapses. Next, we review simplified models of synaptic “noise.” Both type of models will be used in the next chapters to investigate the integrative properties of neurons in the presence of synaptic noise.
