Abstract
Companies must understand how social connections or “guanxi” are created and deployed in China. The goal of this chapter is to analyze the literature addressing the dynamics of social networks in China, as well as the positive and negative aspects associated with them. The chapter concludes with a discussion of why managers should make an effort to understand social connections and their dynamics when doing business in Confucian societies, like China.
