Abstract
The Pap smear for cervical cancer screening was first introduced in the 1940s. Since then, the incidence of cervical cancer in the US has decreased from 14/100,000 to 7.8/100,000 in 1994 [1]. Despite this decline, cervical cancer continues to be the third most common gynecologic malignancy in the US and the second most common cancer in women worldwide. This underscores the need for continued vigilance.
