Normality of the conditional distributions in ordinary regression and in other models is a very constraining assumption because outcomes in a wide range of settings have distributions that are distinctly not normal. This section presents a generalisation of the ordinary regression beyond normality, which retains several features of the ordinary regression. In Section 10.5 we extend multilevel models similarly.
