Abstract
Topical anesthesia strabismus surgery reduces the systemic risk, as well as the postoperative nausea and vomiting associated with general anesthesia. It also eliminates the risk of globe perforation, optic nerve damage, and myotoxicity that is associated with retrobulbar injection. Topical anesthesia can be especially useful in senior citizens who have medical issues that make general anesthesia dangerous.
