Abstract
Head and neck reconstruction in patients with cancer presents unique challenges to the reconstructive surgeon. Because of its visibility, defects of any kind in the head and neck area are difficult to hide and the demands on our reconstructive skills are greater than they are elsewhere in the body, where cosmesis may be less vital and function less specialized. If life expectancy is limited, return to optimal quality of life as quickly as possible is of paramount importance.
