Abstract
This chapter presented several strategies for the design and construction of distributed file systems for UNIX. (A comprehensive survey of distributed file systems can be found in [37].) The chapter began by showing how to extend the traditional UNIX namespace, followed by a classification of different distributed file systems. Then the chapter presented the details of the MOSIX distributed file system implementations, followed by explanations of the MOSIX file system calls.
