Abstract

In this chapter we describe the existing approaches for integrating features for representing and reasoning about part-of in description logics. In all these approaches the description logic system has been extended with special constructs or mechanisms. We describe first the approaches which propose a general framework and then the approaches which concentrate on specific issues in the interaction between is-a and part-of. None of the approaches defines specialized inferences with respect to part-of.
