Zusammenfassung
Unter einer analen Inkontinenz versteht man die Unfähigkeit, Darminhalt unterschiedlichster Konstistenz willkürlich zu kontrollieren. Die anorektale Kontinenz basiert auf dem Zusammenspiel verschiedener motorischer, sensorischer und anatomischer Mechanismen (Kap. 1.3). Kommt es zu einer Störung einer oder mehrerer Komponenten, resultiert daraus eine anale Inkontinenz. Dies bedeutet für den Betroffenen eine Einschränkung seiner Lebensqualität und kann je nach Schweregrad zu einer sozialen Isolierung führen.
