Abstract
Definition 6.1.1. A random sampleof size n of a random variable X is a set X1, ..., Xnof independent random variables whose distribution is identical to that of X. That is, Xkhas the same distribution function as X, for k = 1, ..., n. The random variable X is also called thepopulationand each Xkis anobservationof X.
