Abstract
This chapter provides the fundamental tools used throughout this monograph. For a given subsetℝn we are interested in studying its behavior at infinity. This leads to the concepts of asymptotic cone and asymptotic function through its epigraph. Using elementary real analysis and geometrical concepts we develop a complete mathematical treatment to handle the asymptotic behavior of sets, functions, and other induced functional operations.
