Part of the book series: Coastal Systems and Continental Margins ((CSCM,volume 4))

Abstract

The generation of GIS and their application for environmentally sound management of the coastal zone are impossible without knowledge of environment itself. Traditionally, the emphasis is given to oceans, marginal and enclosed seas or natural lakes in studies of the coastal environment. Evidence from the coastal environment of man-made lakes is limited and mechanisms of its changes are not generally agreed upon. Because of this, the findings of investigations of the sedimentary environment of large man-made lakes and the associated littoral and shoreline processes will be discussed in this chapter.
