Summary
The survey obtained its sample from what was then the Manitoba Health Services Commission and conducted 1257 initial interviews which were generally representative of other studies of Winnipeg. The study used broadly accepted procedures for contacting and interviewing participants and contained standardized measures of alcohol consumption, alcohol dependence, personality, and other constructs. For the measurement of personality, multiple measures of similar constructs were typically used.
Two years later a second survey was conducted with many (78.6%) of the same participants. Differences in the content of the measures are described.A detailed analysis of the differences between Wave 1 and Wave 2 participants is provided.People who were reinterviewed are more educated, have higher incomes, and have lower indicators of involvement with alcohol. The personality differences are also described. The differences between those who responded to Wave 2 versus those who did not were described by both univariate and multivariate models.
