Abstract

Absolute neutron capture cross sections of 63Cu, 65Cu, Cu, La and 209Bi have been measured in the 0.5 – 3.0 MeV energy range with a pulsed 4 MV Van de Graaff accelerator. Prompt capture gamma rays emitted by the sample were detected by a NaI spectrometer. The number of captures was determined from the ratio of the observed capture gamma ray spectrum to the gamma ray energy distribution calculated for one capture reaction.
