Zusammenfassung

Vereine spielen „a major role in a democratic political culture“ und gehören zu den „most important foundations“ einer Demokratie (Almond u. Verba 1963, S. 265). Auf Grund der herausgehobenen Bedeutung von sozialer Partizipation im Allgemeinen und der Betätigung in Vereinen und Verbänden im Besonderen bildet das Thema einen klassischen Untersuchungsgegenstand der Sozialwissenschaften. In den letzten zwei Jahrhunderten wurde soziale Partizipation aus vielen Perspektiven betrachtet, untersucht und bewertet (vgl. u. ;a. Zimmer 1996; Warren 2001).
