Abstract

Plant responses to environment are frequently influenced by stomatal functioning, through effects on plant water use, the development of plant water deficits, net photosynthesis, and temperature relations. In ecophysiology, predicting stomatal responses to environment and relating these responses to the functioning and physical state of plants are important objectives. Qualitative and quantitative differences in stomatal behavior between plant species and ecotypes, or at different phenological stages play important roles in plant performance and adaptation.
