Posterior Uveitis

  • Chapter
Book cover Intraocular Inflammation

Abstract

By definition the term “posterior uveitis” involves inflammation of the posterior layers of the eye and includes diseases causing retinitis, chorioretinitis, pigment epitheliitis, and choroiditis and often involves the optic disk as well. Posterior uveitis excludes disorders of inflammation primarily in the ciliary body, such as pars planitis or intermediate uveitis. However, many diseases may present initially as a posterior uveitis and, if untreated, evolve to a panuveitis. Isolated retinitis will be covered mostly by Chap. 4.7
