Zusammenfassung

Durch die multiplikative Fähigkeit der Maschine und rapide steigende Bevölkerungszahlen hat unsere Zeit einen dynamischen Trend zur Massenproduktion — das Bedürfnis ist Quantität und Qualität mit geringstem Aufwand. Doch ein Lebensstandard durch Standardisierung scheint teuer erkauft mit wachsender Monotonie unserer industriell fabrizierten Umwelt und Einengung der Freiheit der Entscheidung. Das immer größer werdende Heer der Maschinen und Automaten wird dem Menschen einen immer größer werdenden Teil der manuellen Arbeit abnehmen, Elektronengehirne übernehmen die geistige Kärrnerarbeit. Doch Maschinen fabrizieren Serienprodukte, Elemente, und man wird ihnen sagen müssen welche, man wird ihre kombinatorischen Fähigkeiten untersuchen müssen. Neue Materialien werden neue kombinatorische Systeme verlangen.

Abstract

Through the machine’s capacity for duplication and the rapid increase in the population, our epoch is marked by a dynamic trend towards mass production: the need is quantity and quality with as little effort as possible. Nevertheless, the standardisation of the living standard has the dear price of the increas ing monotony of our industrially-produced environment and the restriction of our freedom of choice. The ever-growing master of the machines and automata will take over an increasingly large part of manual labour, and electronic brains will take over the mental drudgery. But machines produce serial products, elements, and someone will have to tell them which ones, someone will have to investigate their capacities of combination. New materials will demand new combinatory systems.
