Summary
The ascomycete genus Penicilliopsis is revised, along with some associated anamorph genera. Sarophorum and Stilbodendron are accepted as anamorphs of Penicilliopsis. The anamorph genus Stilbothamnium, assumed to be a Penicilliopsis anamorph, is reduced to synonymy with Aspergillus and a new subgenus within Aspergillus is proposed to accommodate these species. The anamorph genus Pseudocordyceps, related to the above anamorphs but as yet unknown to have a teleomorph, is redescribed. New combinations proposed are Sarophorum palmicola (Henn.) Samson & Seifert, Stilbodendron cervinum (Cooke & Massee) Samson & Seifert, Aspergillus amazonensis (Henn.) Samson & Seifert, Aspergillus togoensis (Henn.) Samson & Seifert, and Aspergillus vitellinus (Ridley) Samson & Seifert. One new species, Penicilliopsis africana Samson & Seifert, is described. A key to accepted species is provided.
