This chapter reviews research pertaining to young children’s emergent literacy and parental support through storybook read alouds. Characteristics of home environments and experiences that contribute to children’s early literacy development are discussed. In addition, reading relationships between parents and children, such as interactions and routines while sharing storybooks, are examined.
