About this book series
Ecology is a discipline in bloom. Currently, ecologists are attempting to interact across a broad range of scales to address fundamental issues in ecology and environmental science. Biodiversity and biocomplexity initiatives abound and as result the scale of ecology has begun to embrace studies that span from very small plots to entire biomes. The challenge to ecology during this exciting time is to take these emerging set of results and synthesize them within a coherent framework. It is the general theme of this series to take an active and important area of research and then broadly explore the ways ecologists and other scientists are examining this problem. This series is designed to reflect advances in ecology that are theoretical, experimental and empirical. Importantly, this series promotes future research directions by exposing scientists, both young and old, to the breadth of possibilities. Each volume in the series is self-contained. As a whole the series provide a catalogue of modern ecological development, and future directions, for critical ecological problems.
