Improving the reliability of duplex steel pipe

  • Published:
Steel in Translation Aims and scope

Abstract

A new production technology for ferritic-austenitic (duplex and superduplex) stainless steel pipe is proposed, on the basis of grain-boundary engineering. This method considerably improves the resistance of the pipe to intergranular and pitting corrosion and to both chloride stress corrosion cracking and sulfide stress corrosion cracking. Quality control of the pipe is based on corrosive testing and nondestructive monitoring of the intermetallic phases.
