Abstract

We report measurements of f-values of the \(4s4p~^{1}\)P1↦4snd 1D2 (\(30 \leqslant n \leqslant 70\)) and the \(4s4p~^{3}\)P1↦4snd 3D2 (\(20 \leqslant n \leqslant 50\)) Rydberg transitions in calcium using a thermionic diode ion detector in conjunction with a Nd:YAG pumped dye laser system. Absolute values of the photoionization cross-sections have been determined for transitions from the \(4s4p~^{1}\)P1 and \(4s4p~^{3}\)P1 excited states to the 4s ionization threshold as 140(20) Mb and 117(20) Mb respectively. The measured threshold photoionization cross-sections have been used to calibrate the f-values of the above-mentioned Rydberg transitions.
