Abstract

Based on daily observations of the ground air temperature and total daily precipitation, the classification of hazardous atmospheric droughts based on the area of coverage of the territory of European Russia in 1936–2010 has been carried out. Winter and spring meteorological conditions and the space-time features of hazardous atmospheric summer drought in southern European Russia in individual years of the most extensive droughts have been studied. It has been shown that the greatest interrelation in the area of a hazardous atmospheric drought is observed with a total drought duration and the number of continuous periods of more than 20 days with a maximum daily temperature above 25°C against a background of the absence of effective precipitation from May to September, as well as the number of days with maximum daily air temperatures above 25°C without effective precipitation from May to September.
