Abstract

Enantioselective reduction of γ-keto acids and related γ-keto esters with Saccharomyces cerevisiae (baker’s yeast) leads to the formation of the corresponding chiral 5-aryltetrahydrofuran-2-ones in satisfactory chemical and optical yields.
