Abstract

The attenuation of radio waves with a 2-cm wavelength in convective and continuous rains over satellite-to-satellite radio-occultation paths is theoretically investigated as a function of the altitude of the ray line above the Earth’s surface. The specific variations of the obtained dependences make it possible to identify these types of rain and to roughly estimate the rate of rainfall.
