Abstract

Warner’s (1965) randomized response (RR) model and its various modifications are not applicable to surveys involving quantitative response to a sensitive question. Eichhorn and Hayre (1983) proposed an RR technique for surveys in which answer to sensitive questions result in quantitative response variables. Chaudhuri (1987) proposed a procedure for estimating the mean of a sensitive quantitative variable under a general sampling set-up using varying selection probabilities. Here we propose a method that generalizes Eichhorn and Hayer’s method in unequal probability sampling and also present a numerical example comparing the performance of our procedure with Eichhorn and Hayre’s (1983) procedure under two conventional sampling schemes.
