The role of lobster (Homarus spp.) hatcheries in ranching, restoration and remediation programmes

Juvenile lobsters can be reared in hatcheries. Their use in ranching programmes has been demonstrated successfully and exploitation of the idea by fisheries is commencing. Studies are underway to investigate the use of these juveniles in restoring damaged or threatened populations. However, the concept of using them in remediation projects remains theoretically possible but untested.
